5 Simple Mental Health Habits to Start This Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and there’s no better time to recommit to
the small daily habits that make a big difference in how we feel, think, and connect. At
Spice of Life, we believe mental wellness is just as important as physical health—and
that it should be accessible, simple, and heart-centered.

Here are five gentle habits you can start today to support your mind, body, and
emotional well-being:
🌬️ 1. Breathe with Purpose
Try this once a day: Inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4. Repeat 4x.
It’s called box breathing, and it’s proven to calm the nervous system in just minutes.
✍️ 2. Journal One Thought a Day
You don’t need to be a writer—just jot down one sentence about how you’re feeling or
what you’re grateful for. It creates space for refection and clarity.
🧘 3. Schedule Quiet Time
Even 5–10 minutes of silence—no phone, no tasks, just being—can reset your mind
and reduce mental fatigue. Light a candle or step outside and breathe it in.
🚫 4. Protect Your Boundaries
Say “no” without guilt to something that drains you. One small act of self-protection
can improve your emotional energy more than you think.
💬 5. Reach Out to Someone You Trust
Connection is healing. Whether it’s a text, voice note, or lunch with a friend—check in,
be heard, or just share a laugh.
